The Design and Features of Motorcycle Backpacks

The design of motorcycle backpacks is different from the design used to create traditional packs for school or travel. A bag like the MotoCentric for cruising, includes a built-in helmet hood and an aerodynamically designed body. The style of the body and material used in creating these backpacks allows for the resistance of wind to be reduced. These are bags worn by the individual driving the motorcycle so they are designed not to tug, pull or weight the person down. The straps are adjustable and heavily padded to help protect against the strain of a bike traveling at high speeds.

The pack created bu Firstgear is available in a gray and black design using a denier nylon with a PVC coating. The coating protects the bag from water as well as the UV rays of the sun. As with all of the motorcycle backpacks, this item comes with reflective trim to illuminate the rider during the nighttime hours. The reflective strips are placed on the exterior sides so the cyclist will be visible to traffic. This particular model includes a padded pocket for carrying CDs, an internal bag for storing a helmet, and two external side pockets for miscellaneous items.

The bags designed for use on the big cruiser bikes, often have additional compartments and larger interior spaces than those created for use on street or dirt bikes. A street bike design is available in the Icon Squad using bright colors of orange and yellow, which meet the visibility standards of the military. This unique pack has a built-in vest, rather than traditional straps. The front vest section is fully padded and includes two sturdy buckle fasteners. The material used to make this item is a durable nylon. The interior compartment is roomy enough to hold a fifteen inch laptop.

The various motorcycle backpacks can be found in different sizes. In addition to the sizes created with a basic interior compartment and an additional helmet compartment, there are bags designed just for carrying a helmet. The Joe Rocket line of products has a black backpack measuring only thirteen inches by ten inches. It can be used to hold a helmet or other items if the rider does not want to store their helmet or does not use one. This item is designed with loop straps which can be connected to the seat for carrying rather than placing it on the rider's back.
